Well priced Great MPG Trucks

I’m currently driving a 2004 Chevy Silverado extended cab work truck that gets 12-14mpg purchased it for $2,000. The tires alone are worth $1k.... the trucks body is beat up but it somehow works with the matte plastic wrap (it’s got character). Tranny was replaced before I purchased it and engine runs like a champ which I’m in love with and I can’t go back to not having a truck...especially since my side hustle is a carpenter/woodworker .

purchased it a year ago with 160,000 miles and I just hit 200k so if my math is correct that’s a bit over $9000 in gas.....

I’m contemplating 2 options:

Keep my truck for work... keep driving my Nissan Altima for when I need to go shopping for materials and putting in bids... seemed like a good idea at first but I feel that I waste more time this way... as I drive my truck 5 days a week for work and driving 3-4 hours round trip to scout with my car is getting old... time = money and sanity!

My second option is to sell my truck and Altima and purchase 1 vehicle that I can drive around and not be scared that I’m going to spend over $18k in gas...

I can’t afford anything newer and my credit is trash... so I’m looking for something I can buy in the $10 range.... I’m definitely willing to pay more if it blows me away but $20k on a 25mpg Chevy Colorado is just to much...

What are some good year brand models I can look at? I always figured Tacoma’s got good mpg but I guess not :/

Dash cam search

I've been searching around for a couple hours now. I want a front and rear dash cam setup. The kind with one camera near the front and one on the back window. I also have a stock GoPro mount on my windshield that I would like to use or get rid of.

The ideal camera I want is along the lines of this:

  • Recording throughout the night in case of break-ins. Or turns on when motion is detected.
  • Long battery life
  • Wide front view angle
  • Under 400$
  • Smartphone app

Anybody have a camera setup they love?

Exhaust Help

As the genius I am, I tried putting a new muffler on my 07 F150 on my own. With clamps. And some random exhaust pieces I found. Now I am huffing fumes wherever I go and for once do not want to drive. This is possibly the most ratchet exhaust job you'll see. Is there any advice and how to temporarily make it so I don't die and can go to school for a bit till I can get an actual professional to do it?

Crate engine for ’99 k1500?

I'm going to be parking my '98 k1500 z71 this winter to do a half ass restoration. I'm planning to buy a goodwrench long block crate engine straight from GM.

I was looking on their website and they have a 1500 specific "L31 5.7" engine, and a 2500+ specific "L31 5.7 HD" engine. By the sites descriptions, the only difference is that the L31 is a 2 bolt main and the L31 HD is a 4 bolt main. And they're bot the exact same price

I'd obviously prefer a 4 bolt main. But I'm concerned about differences between standard and HD like intake, exhaust, alternator, starter, flywheel, transmission fitment, engine mounts, water pump, power steering, ac compressor, ECU sensors, etc, etc. All those parts that are on my truck and perfectly functional now, will be cleaned, repaired, or replaced as needed.

Will all that stuff just bolt up to the HD 4 bolt main long block? Or us the HD engine block vastly different?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
